Silva’s Kafta Batata

,

A little bit about this recipe…..

Prep: 10 mins | Cook: 30 mins | Serves: 4 | Cost: £2pp

This recipe was sent to me from our super contributor Silva. In her recipe she serves with bulgar wheat and chickpeas. However I didn’t have bulgar wheat or a car!! This recipe typically has potatoes in the pot, so that’s what I did and threw in a tin of chickpeas. I added some optional extras as Paps does love spices. It’s really is down to preference. Try a BLAG!!

Ingredients

  • 500g beef or lamb mince
  • 2 onions
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 tsp all spice
  • 2 tsp sumac (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon (optional)
  • 1 red chilli finely chopped (optional)
  • 1 tomato slice
  • 1 red or green pepper sliced
  • 2 tins of chopped tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp tomato puree
  • Bulgar Wheat, Rice or a few potatoes

Method

  1. Finely chop 1 onion and add to mince
  2. Add spices, garlic and chilli and mix
  3. Mould the meat mixture around a bbq skewer to look like a kebab in whatever size you like. Slide off the skewer and set aside. Repeat this until all the mixture is used
  4. Put a little oil in a pan – once hot add your kebabs and brown off
  5. Once browned place in an oven proof dish
  6. Add your sliced onion, tomato and pepper to your dish
  7. Add tins of tomatoes
  8. Mix tomato puree in a glass of warm water, season and mix, then add to your dish
  9. Add tinned chickpeas
  10. If using potatoes chop into chunks and add to dish
  11. Place in a preheated oven at 180°C and cook until bubblingI
  12. If not using potatoes serve with bulgar wheat or rice
