⭐ Stardom At Last! ⭐

The other day, Paps and I popped down to The Hurstwood for lunch, courtesy of my lovely mother-in-law Carol (although around here she’s known simply as Gmar).

The food was absolutely fabulous and thoroughly recommended. We had a lovely meal, a good catch-up and generally enjoyed pretending that we weren’t constantly thinking about recipes, freezers and what might be appearing on future menus.

Then something rather unexpected happened.

A lady came over to our table and asked:

“Are you Jam Jam?”

Well.

I tried to play it cool, but internally I was already halfway through my acceptance speech.

Stardom at last. 😄

After introducing herself, she asked whether I might be willing to make something for the High Hurstwood Fete this Saturday.

Naturally, I said yes.

Then came the difficult bit…

What to make?

After much deliberation, I decided to have a go at Viennese Twirls.

Now, anyone who knows me will understand that there was absolutely no chance of me waiting until Friday and making them for the first time. That would be reckless, irresponsible and entirely against Jam Jam’s testing policy.

Everything must be sampled.

Possibly several times.

For quality control purposes, obviously.

So a test batch has been made and will shortly be making its way to the lovely ladies at The Tiny Box Company for independent review.

If they give them the thumbs up and declare them fit for public consumption, the Viennese Twirls will be making an appearance in the tea tent at the fete on Saturday.

No pressure then.

If you’d like to have a go at making them yourself, you’ll find the recipe below.

And if you’re visiting the fete this weekend, do keep an eye out for them. Assuming they survive both the Tiny Box Company taste test and Paps’ repeated attempts at “quality assurance”.

Love,

Jam Jam xxx

🍪 P.S. I’m still not entirely sure how the lady recognised me. Either Jam Jam’s Kitchen is becoming famous, or I’ve reached the stage where I’m instantly identifiable by flour, butter and a faint smell of batch cooking.
